Richard Buchanan is Vice President & General Manager of Content
Services for the Comcast Media Center (CMC), a Business unit of Comcast

Buchanan, a 30–year veteran in video production, management and
distribution for the entertainment and enterprise markets, joined the
CMC in 2007 as Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining the CMC’s

Ascent Media Management Services (AMMS). Before joining AMMS in 2005,
he spent nine years as Senior Vice President of Operations and Business
Development for Crown Media International, which owns and operates the
Hallmark Channel. Prior to joining Crown Media in 1996, Buchanan served
as the Vice President of Production and Creative Services at Encore
Media, where he helped to launch Starz! and seven thematic multiplex
channels. Over the last 14 years, he has launched a total of 49
channels worldwide.
Buchanan’s industry positions prior to joining Encore include holding
COO, general manager and production posts with HSN Telemation, from
1988 to1993, and serving as producer/director for Media Works of
Virginia, from 1984 to 1988. He entered the industry in 1976, as
operations manager for Star Television, a MMDS service that provided
subscription television services in four US markets. He attended
Virginia Commonwealth University, where he studied mass communication
with a specialization in broadcasting, and Colorado State University’s

He was technical architect and manager of the development of the first BBC iPlayer, launched in 2004. Kelly’s early career began at international advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty. He spent two years there as a senior systems analyst working on desktop video and extranets. In 1994, he developed software for the Apple Newton, which was cool at the time.

He is a regular conference speaker and contributer to media forums also advising institutional investment groups. Ashley Marty is the Lead Ontologist on the taxonomy team at AOL. The goal of the taxonomy team is to create a common vocabulary across all 100+ AOL sites to classify and identify content for both editorial and advertising purposes.
Ashley holds an MLIS from Pratt's School of Information and Library Science. She previously worked as a library assistant at the Diamond Law Library at Columbia University and interned at the research department of The New York Times. She is interested in finding ways to apply semantic web technologies and standards to foster effective DAM.

Before being named Director of Rights and Clearances for NBC News, Powell was manager of Rights and Clearances for MSNBC for nine years. Overseeing Rights for breaking news live coverage as well as long form tape reports, Powell has served a range of stories including the attacks on September 11, the Reginald Denny LA Riots, military conflicts and celebrity scandals. He has also managed Rights for more than 400 hours of taped content for MSNBC Headliners & Legends and MSNBC Investigates series.

Currently, Char manages the day-to-day operations of the Digital Asset Management system as well as facilitating the physical archival requirements for historical preservation. As a senior manager at EY Peri Shamsai focuses on Media and Entertainment clients, working on transformational initiatives in the TV (Univision, Scripps), publishing (Pearson), music (EMI) industries and the multi-media companies (Disney, Viacom). Peri comes to EY with deep industry experience in all of these sectors. Prior to joining EY she held the position of vice president, International Strategic Planning at Discovery Communication global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland. In this role, Peri worked with Discovery’s senior management teams in Silver Spring and abroad to identify, recommend and create strategies for international and cross-regional business initiatives. She joined Discovery Networks from BearingPoint, where she served as senior manager and was responsible for business strategy and technology initiatives in media and entertainment. Prior to joining BearingPoint, she was head of licensing and content management at Reed Elsevier – LexisNexis, where she led multiple large-scale corporate strategy, technology and operational initiatives. Peri also held several positions at BMG Entertainment, most notably senior director of worldwide business affairs and strategic development. In this role, she was responsible for leading several of the company’s corporate strategy and online initiatives. She also held roles in marketing, business affairs and the office of the chairman.
Before entering the business world, Peri was a musician and academic, receiving a doctorate in historical musicology from Columbia University and having spent many years as a classical pianist. She has received numerous awards, including Fulbright, Mellon and Rotary scholarships and awards from the German, Austrian and Italian governments. She also holds a master’s degree in business administration from Insead and a bachelor’s degree in arts from Brown University.
